The term ‘sustainability’ is thrown around a lot on social media these days. Many times, I’m finding the context to be incorrect or not encompassing the entire concept. To start, sustainability is a term you can apply to almost everything. It’s a balanced concept with an ultimate goal of sustaining the world in which we live. It’s about future generations being able to enjoy the same things we do, today. It has three categories, all of which are equally as important - environmental, social and economic. There really isn’t one answer to this concept, and it will vary depending on where you are in the world, who you are talking to, and our ever changing environment. We all have different values, which also play a part in determining the sustainability of a product. Therefore, it’s important to keep an open mind, and realize nothing is black and white.

Typically, for a garment to be considered ‘sustainable’, it should be eco-friendly, ethically-made, lasting, and accessible. We could make a long list of what a sustainable garment should be, but these are the key characteristics I look for when deciding on my purchase. I’ve created a simple checklist in my guide linked below.

  • Your Survival Kit to get out of this Pandemic in One Piece - Literally!

12 comments / Posted on by Customer Service

COVID 19 is unknown territory. Full stop. We have no idea when a vaccine will be available, when we can reopen our border and travel again, worst yet, when we can go back to the gym! Apparently alcohol assumption has gone through the roof - makes sense though, who doesn't need a glass of vino during these depressing times...

BUT, rest and assured, most of us are expected to eventually get out of this alive, and to see your friends and families again not on an iPad screen. So we better keep our workout routines and our shape in a safe place!

Gyms and fitness houses are adapting real quick these days to make sure they don't lose all of their customers in the next few months. They have made available a variety of workout videos you can easily access on YouTube. Here are productions from Barry's Boot Camp and one from F45 - it's actually a lot of fun to watch and follow, great entertainment and it keeps you fit, what more can you ask for :)

10 comments / Posted on by Customer Service

Oh Anna, she stole our hearts (and our clothes) and now she’s stolen $50,000 dollars from the executives at Channel Nine. Anna and her new boo, Josh, left the Love Island villa tonight winners and not to brag, but we called it. How did we know? Here’s 11 reasons we knew Anna was going to win tonight’s Love Island Australia finale.

    1. When she called Adam a F**k boy

    GIF by Love Island Australia

We stan a girl that calls it like she sees it.

    2. When she wore this killer outfit

I mean, c’mon! You don’t wear a dress like this unless you’re gonna win.

    3. When Anna and Josh dry humped on top of Adam

    GIF by Love Island Australia

We’re 99% sure this is what Adam was thinking at the time.

    4. When she couldn’t even wait for Josh to finish his sentence when he asked her to be his gf

    GIF by Love Island Australia

    It was so sweet!

    5. When we found out she was in the Hilltop Hoods music video

While everyone else was out here playing a short game, Anna has been playing the long game.

    6. When she sat Margarita down to point out the difference between Josh and Luke so she didn’t steal her man

    GIF by Love Island Australia

Be honest, you would have done the same.

    7. When she proved herself to be a gal’s gal

    GIF by Love Island Australia

If this isn’t relatable AF, I don’t know what is.

    8. When she comes back from the hideaway with Josh and instantly tells the girls what happened

    GIF by Love Island Australia

Sisters before misters, am I right?

    9. When Josh said what we were all thinking

    GIF by Love Island Australia

    Same, Josh, same.

    10. Did we mention her wardrobe?

The Love Island Australia winner is wearing Showpo's ‘Beyond It Dress In Champagne Velvet’ and nailing it.

    11. Like seriously, she loves Showpo as much as we love her!

    12. Like seriously, she loves Black Activewear outfits as much as we do!

  • These Are The Best Thanksgiving TV Specials

1 comment / Posted on by Customer Service

Despite never living in the America and only ever celebrating Thanksgiving with my Mum’s one American friend, I truly do love Thanksgiving TV specials and movies. They’re a sign Halloween is over (thanks heavens) and that Christmas is a mere five weeks away. Sure, nothing compares to a good Christmas movie but, Thanksgiving flicks can be just as wholesome. Whether you celebrating Turkey Day or not, we guarantee these are some of your fave watches. So, if you’re wondering watch to watch on Thanksgiving (or as we call it in Australia, Thursday), here’s the very best Thanksgiving TV episodes and movies to get you in the spirit.

    Friends: Season 5, Episode 8

Thanksgiving dinner gathering scene from Friends.

This is everyone’s favourite Friends episode. Duh! It’s the one where Monica and Chandler confess their love. That’s not a spoiler by the way, it’s been 21 years.

    Friends: Season 8, Episode 9

    Brad Pitt in Friends.

This 2001 episode should have been called “the one where Brad Pitt got lost looking for the set of Oceans  Eleven”. Pitt, who was married to Jennifer Anniston aka Rachel Green at the time, makes his cameo as Will, their friend from high school. Unfortunately he was also the leader of the “I Hate Rachel Green Club” back in the day. Awks.

Modern Family: Season 6, Episode 8

Phil from Modern Family holding a turkey in tray to bake.

Sure, Modern Family might not be in the same canon as Friends but the Dunphy family puts on a mean holiday special. Clownish Dad Phil and youngest son Luke promise that they will make the turkey, but Claire isn’t so sure. She makes a back-up turkey, then we get a surprise third turkey. It’s a classic “too much turkey” Thanksgiving.

Master Of None: Season 2, Episode 8

Image result for Thanks Giving Master of NoneIf we can convince you to watch any Thanksgiving eps, we hope it’s this one. Lena Waithe won an Emmy for this performance and rightfully so. Her character, Denise, has yet to come out to her family, but things change in a one very powerful scene.

This Is Us: Season 1, Episode 8

thanksgiving episodes this is us pilgrim rick

After you finish the episode above, keep the Kleenex out. There’s yet to be an episode of This Is Us that hasn’t made as cry and ‘Pilgrim Rick‘ from season one is no different. Oh Jack, how you break our hearts.

Gilmore Girls: Season 3, Episode 9

    thanksgiving episodes golmore girls

Something about Gilmore Girls always feels festive, even if it’s not a holiday episode. However, if the title of this episode, ‘A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving‘, doesn’t tell you everything you need to know, you’ll just have to watch to find out why it’s the quintessential Thanksgiving episode.

How I Met Your Mother: Season 3, Episode 9

Image result for Slapsgiving," How I Met Your Mother

Forgetting that the writers of HIMYM robbed us of a potentially iconic television show with that series finale, the Thanksgiving episode offers a small slice of redemption. It’s the group’s first Thanksgiving with Lily and Marshall as a married couple but the real tension here is that Barney is waiting for Marshall to slap him for the third time. You have to watch it to understand.

Gossip Girl: Season 1, Episode 9

When Dan hears that Serena and her family are spending Thanksgiving alone at The Palace, he invites them to spend the holiday with his family. Which as you might remember is super awks because it turns out their parents used to bone (unbeknownst to their offspring). Meanwhile, Blair’s having a meltdown, because well, that’s what Blair does best.

    Friends: Season 3, Episode 9

Image result for “The One with the Football”

Okay this is the last Friends mention on this list. But honestly, how could you go past ‘The One with the Football‘.  Emotions become the feast of the day with a game of touch football on Thanksgiving. But unfortunately, that means the turkey is left to stew when the losing team calls for a rematch.

The Office: Season 7, Episode 9

Image result for dwight hay king

The Office is a year-round favourite but we can’t go past ‘‘. Dwight recreates Hay Place (a fond childhood memory) to fulfil a childhood dream of becoming Hay King. But unfortunately for Dwight, this is the episode where we meet Senator Robert Lipton, the future-husband of his office crush, Angela. Devo. If you’re wondering what the heck is, it’s a scheme by Ryan the temp.

    Seinfeld: Season 6, Episode 8

    seinfeld thanksgiving episodes

George is set to buy a 1989 Volvo sedan, but instead the car salesman talks him into buying a flashier model. Elaine wins her boss a chance to walk in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Kramer decides to help out a small business by sending business their way. As part of his project, he cleans out Jerry’s closet and sends all of his sneakers to them for repair. If you know Kramer, you know this doesn’t bode well.

New Girl: Season 2, Episode 8

    thanksgiving episodes parents new girl

This episode of New Girl is more like The Parent Trap meets Thanksgiving and it’s just as hilarious as that sounds.

    Grey’s Anatomy: Season 2, Episode 9

Image result for Grey’s Anatomy: Season 2, Episode 9 izzie

This Thanksgiving feast is pre-Pinterest and it shows. Cringe along while Izzie tries to have the perfect Turkey Day, but she is literally clueless about what to do.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Season 2, Episode 13

    Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Thanksgiving Episode

You need to watch this episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt for the sole purpose of deciding what you’re thankful for. You know there’s that one Aunt who’s gonna ask. If you really don’t know, riff off Jacqueline’s answer. She’s apparently thankful for “loving someone other than herself…and revenge”. Iconic.

    Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Season 2, Episode 7

If you really don’t want a Thanksgiving-forward Thanksgiving episode (weird flex, but okay), you can always rely on Brooklyn Nine-Nine to bring the chaos.

  • Top 5 Reasons You Should Be Doing Pilates

0 comments / Posted on by Customer Service

reasons why you should practice pilates

    1. Connect your mind & body!

Pilates requires focused and controlled movement, making it perfect for switching off and tuning in with what’s really going on in your body and in your mind.
Many of the exercises target the smaller, harder to reach, muscles and muscle groups so it’s important to establish a mind to muscle connection and draw attention to the breath.
With so much to concentrate on it’s easy to remove stressful thoughts and just enjoy taking time out of your day for movement. So, lock your phone in your locker, lie back and relax on the reformer - your brain will thank you as much as your body.

    2. The physical benefits are endless...

Oh so many benefits!!! Without creating bulk, Pilates will increase muscle strength and tone. It will help increase the deep core muscles. It also improves your flexibility, balance and posture, which can decrease the chances of injuring yourself.

    3. It doesn’t matter what you current fitness level is!

Whether you’re a pro athlete, just starting to exercise or somewhere in between, Pilates is an adaptable exercise and the foundations of focusing on body alignment and strengthening your core applies to you!
All exercises can be modified to suit your fitness level, age and gender so it’s always the right time to get started!

    4. Boost your energy levels!

The feeling you get after Pilates is unlike that you get from other workouts - think uplifting, long, lean, lengthened and strong.
Exercise that’s sustainable and enjoyable will always give you the best results and Pilates is something you can incorporate multiple times a week, without the risk of burnout or over-stressing the body.
The magic of your new Pilates routine happens when you feel the benefits across other areas of your life - be it being able to concentrate longer at work, or having the energy to make it to the end of your To Do list, it’s like a positive domino effect of energy!

    5. There are different styles to suit everyone!

    Mat Pilates
Mat Pilates is done on the floor using an exercise or yoga mat, encouraging controlled breathing whilst working through body weight resisted movement to build core strength. It can also involve basic Pilates equipment such as a Pilates ring, resistance band, weighted balls and light dumbbells.
    Contemporary Pilates
Contemporary Pilates is influenced by modern movement & physiotherapy rehabilitation techniques. There is a large focus on understanding anatomy & the scientific reasons behind each movement & exercise. You’ll often find physiotherapy or fitness inspired exercises added into the workout too.
    Classical Pilates
Classical Pilates closely follows the original Pilates system exactly the way it was taught by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. It always follows a precise set of exercises in an order that must always be followed. Exercises can slightly be modified if you’re unable to perform them but the general flow & sequence is usually the same.
    Clinical Pilates
Clinical Pilates is a system of safe and effective exercises which meet the specific individual’s needs. It is often used in combination with physical therapy to help you recover from injuries or to manage a serious physical condition.
Dynamic group Reformer Pilates - what Love Athletica offer
Unlike Classical Pilates, Dynamic Pilates goes a step further. As the name suggests, it’s a more intense and dynamic program, designed to improve posture and build lean and toned muscles by targeting each muscle group through a series of a combination of slow and fast paced movements both on and off the Reformer. Expect to sweat! Think of it as Pilates with a little more.
